Does anyone know if there is some way to take my DA account offline for a little while without actually deleting the entire thing? I don't want to do deviant art for the time being, but I would absolutely hate to lose all my posts, friends, etc. Any suggestions?

10 Things Meme

4 min read
:iconghostcharmer: tagged me for this particular meme. I normally don't go for these, but this was fun and I was in desperate need of a journal update!

1->You must post these rules (VERY Important )
2->Each person must post 10 things about themselves on their journal.
3->Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create ten new questions for the people you tag to answer.
4->You have to choose 10 people to tag and post their icons on your journal.
5->Go to their pages and tell them you have tagged her/him.
6->No tag backs
7->No crap in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you're reading this." You legitimately (AKA, really, truly with all honesty) have to tag 10 people.

Ten things about me:
1. I'm afraid of sharks. And horses. And that weird, mythical half horse/half shark hybrid thing.
2. My left pinky-toe sticks straight up in the air
3. I'm the father of 4 awesome sons... Jacob, Isaac, Linus and Charlie
4. I was once attacked by (and successfully fended off) a drunken, Brazilian ninja
5. I had an ancestor named He Man
6. The other day I had a dream about a box. I probably don't need to state this, but it was rather uneventful.
7. I once won an award for my ability to entertain others with a single piece of hair.
8. I'm double-jointed in my thumbs and big toes.
9. I coined the phrase "Man-tastic!" I'm still waiting for it to catch on.
10. I really want a pet waxy monkey frog: 25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_liz…

Answers to Ghostcharmer's 10 questions:
1. Are you allergic to anything?
--- Penicillin, walnuts and kryptonite. One gives me hives, one gives me canker sores, the other makes me sleepy.
2. How many countries have you been to?
--- Four, and sadly all in the Americas. I don't get out much.
3. What is the funniest name you've ever heard?
--- I once read about a Chinese couple that tried to name their child "@". Apparently the Chinese government wouldn't go for it. What's wrong with "@"?
4. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
--- You think being born was rough. Wait until you have to file taxes.
5. What was your favorite pet you had as a child and why?
--- We had a dog named Tramp. He was awesome. I don't need to justify his awesomeness! Back off!
6. What is your favorite number?
--- "1." It's easier to manage.
7. What is your biggest fear?
--- Losing my wife or one of my kids.
8. If you ever had an imaginary friend, what would he/she/it be like?
--- My imaginary friend would be a massage therapist. That way I could imagine awesome back rubs all the time!
9. What is/was your worst subject in school? best?
--- I. Hate. Math. On the flip side, it was also one of my better subjects. Life is cruel that way.
10. What is the most beautiful place you've ever been?
--- This is a hard question to answer. I'm generally able to find the beauty in most places I go.

My 10 questions:
1. What would be the outcome of a group fight between Lord Voldemort, Darth Vader, Freddy Kruger, Pennywise the Dancing Clown, Dracula, King Kong, and the Wicked Witch of the West?
2. Mayonnaise or Miracle Whip? Why?
3. What's the meanest prank that you've ever pulled?
4. When have you been the most scared?
5. Favorite movie or television series?
6. What is your #1 guilty pleasure?
7. Who is your hero and why?
8. What is your favorite breakfast cereal?
9. Are you a morning or night person?
10. What animal do you identify yourself with? And why?

I just picked up this book by Hugh MacLeod, and artist writing on the subject of success and creativity. I've only read the first few chapters, but I'm seriously impressed. A few quotes....

‎"With business colleagues it's even worse. They're used to dealing with you in a certain way. They're used to having a certain level of control over the relationship. And they want whatever makes them more prosperous. Sure, they might prefer it if you prosper as well, but that's not their top priority. If your idea is so good that it changes your dynamic enough to where you need them) less or, God forbid, the market needs them less, then they're going to resist your idea every chance they can. Again, that's human nature. GOOD IDEAS ALTER THE POWER BALANCE IN RELATIONSHIPS. THAT IS WHY GOOD IDEAS ARE ALWAYS INITIALLY RESISTED. Good ideas come with a heavy burden, which is why so few people execute them. So few people can handle it."

"Well, as I'm fond of saying on my blog, don't quit your day job. I didn't.... Even after my cartooning got successful, I still took on corporate marketing and advertising gigs, just to stay attached to the real world. Keeping on foot in the "real world" makes everything far more manageable for me. The fact that I have another income means I don't feel pressured to do something market-friendly. Instead, I get to do whatever the hell I want. I get to do it for my own satisfaction. And I think that makes the work more powerful in the long run. It also makes it easier to carry on with it in a calm fashion, day-in-day-out, and not go crazy in insane creative bursts brought on by money worries."

"Being good at anything is like figure skating - the definition of being good at it is being able to make it look easy. But it never is easy. Ever. That's what the stupidly wrong people conveniently forget."

I'll post more great excerpts as I come across them.

I'm not sure if these could be of use to anyone, but I recorded them for my Creative Perspective class.

The "new" DA doesn't really bother me... with one exception. Is anyone else having problems with Ads overlapping the artwork that you're attempting to view? I really hope this isn't one of those "annoy you into purchasing a premium account" things.
